Overview

The Infinite Hunger is one of the two Eldritch Horrors standing between you and The Eater of Worlds. It dies in roughly thirty seconds to a competent build, which makes it one of the fastest repeatable pinnacle-tier kills in the game, and its pool carries the Eldritch currency along with the Choking Guilt card. The profit here is built on how quickly the fight repeats, not on any single rich drop being likely.

Setup

  • Writhing Invitation — one per run, consumed in the map device. It opens the Seething Chyme at area level 83. The tradeable version drops from the boss of the 14th tier 14+ map influenced by the Eater of Worlds, and repeats every 28 maps after that.
  • Rare and corrupted — this strategy assumes the invitation is both rare and corrupted. Invitation modifiers scale area item quantity, and that is what lifts every drop rate below to the top of its published range. A plain invitation drops closer to half as much and should be modelled separately.
  • About one minute per run, end to end — a thirty-second kill plus thirty seconds of portal, travel and loading the device. That is the house estimate rather than a measured figure, and it assumes the invitation is already in hand; buying or corrupting one for every run costs more than the half-minute allows.

The Encounter

  • Sumo Slam ("Obliterate!"/"Mash!") — a large slam that glows before it lands and hits hard; leave the area during the glow.
  • Burrow ("Hunger!") — the boss becomes a mass of invulnerable tentacles trailing damage over time, so run away rather than chase and expect a slam when it re-emerges.
  • Vomit ("Melt!"/"Digestion!") — a mortar spray of chaos projectiles that always poisons, with the empowered version leaving slowing ooze pools; circle strafe out of the spread.
  • Drill Charge ("Slaughter!"/"Trample!"/"Cull!") — a telegraphed charge whose damage scales with the distance it covers; step sideways and it misses entirely.
  • Tar pit — the arena floods and applies Drowning stacks until it teleports you to the sludge pit, so either burst the boss down first or jump in deliberately and follow the flowing goo to the exit portal.
  • Bring chaos mitigation — nearly everything it does is physical converted to chaos or poison, which makes Soul of Shakari and Soul of Arakaali worth slotting for the fight.

How These Numbers Were Calculated

These figures are modelled, not recorded. Nobody ran a hundred of these and wrote down what fell out.

  • A synthetic 100-kill sample. Every published drop chance is read straight across as a count over 100 kills: a 5% chance becomes five drops, a 20% chance becomes twenty, a 1% chance becomes one. Expenses are one run's invitation cost multiplied by the same 100 runs, and the hourly figure spreads the net total over 100 minutes of running at one minute per kill.
  • The high end of every range. The wiki publishes each drop as a range, where the low value is the base rate and the high value assumes a rare and corrupted invitation. This model takes the high value throughout, so it describes a juiced run and not a bare one.
  • The rates are extrapolations. The wiki states plainly that they are derived from data on The Black Star with an average number of modifiers, scaled by area item quantity — they were never measured on this boss. Real results over a short run of kills will differ, and a table built this way can be wrong in either direction.
  • Most of the profit sits in one card. Choking Guilt alone accounts for roughly 69% of the modelled take, at a drop chance of about 1%. Across a hundred kills the card is as likely to appear zero times as once, so a long stretch with nothing to show for it is the expected shape of this strategy rather than a sign it has stopped working. Strip that card out and the remaining pool — the Eldritch currency, mostly — is what you can actually count on.
