Best Bosses to Farm in Path of Exile
Admin
September 4, 2026
Every pinnacle boss is one fragment set and one portal, so the pick comes down to what you can kill and how patient you are. Four short answers, then all sixteen compared.
How to choose a boss to farm
Four things decide it, and the one you expect to matter most does not.
There is no single best boss to farm. There is only the one that fits what you can kill.
Four things decide the pick. How much profit per hour you want. What the fragments cost. How dangerous the fight is. And whether you want steady income or are happy chasing one big drop.
One of those matters far less than you would think. Boss fragments are cheap next to what the fights pay back. Almost every boss here earns back its setup in a few minutes of farming, so the cost of getting in is rarely the thing that should decide your evening. The real question is what you can kill, and how patient you are on the runs that pay nothing.
Bosses are also the simplest content to run. Every one of them is one fragment set and one portal. There is no atlas tree to rebuild and no scarab checklist to keep. That is true of all sixteen, so this guide does not rank them on setup effort — there would be nothing to rank.
- Profit per hour
- What the fight is worth for an hour of your time, in divines, at current prices.
- Setup cost
- The fragments or invitation one kill consumes. Almost always the smallest part of the decision.
- Difficulty
- How likely the fight is to kill you, rated 1 to 5. Bosses only use 3 and above.
- Top drop share
- How much of the money comes from one item. High means rare, lumpy payouts.
Here are the four short answers.
25%
It spreads its rewards wider than anything else. If a difficulty 5 fight is out of reach, The Shaper is the closest thing to it you can survive.
Uber Maven answers two of the four questions. It pays the most and it pays the most evenly. What it asks in return is that you can reliably kill the hardest fight in the category.

Three things stand out before you read another word.
The top of the table is nearly all difficulty 5. If you cannot clear the hardest tier, the first three lines are not for you, and the fight you want is Sirus in fourth.
The setup costs bear almost no relation to the profits. The cheapest boss on the list earns more than nine of the ones above it in price, and the two most expensive setups are the two that lose money.
And two bosses at the bottom are losing money outright. Both are uber versions of a fight whose normal version earns well.
The rest of this guide takes those columns one at a time.

Uber Maven leads at about 38 divines an hour, well clear of everything else. It costs a bit over 2 divines a set in Reality Fragments, which is the most expensive setup of any boss worth running, and it is rated 5. You are paying in risk, not in currency.
Sirus is the most useful line in this table. It sits fourth at about 17 divines an hour on a difficulty 3 fight with a setup of under 30 chaos. That is roughly half the best rate in the game without touching the hardest content, and the fight itself is a long, readable one that punishes standing in the wrong place rather than out-damaging you.
Uber Sirus is the value outlier. It earns about 23 an hour on a setup of about 22 chaos. Nothing else near the top of this table is remotely that cheap, and it is the only fight in the game whose uber version costs less than its base.
Cheapest bosses to farm
If you want to start tonight with almost nothing, start here.

What one kill actually consumes:
The Shaper
Fragment of the Hydra ×1
~4c
Fragment of the Chimera ×1
~5c
Fragment of the Phoenix ×1
~5c
Fragment of the Minotaur ×1
~5c
Four of the cheapest five are also solid earners, which is unusual. Normally cheap means slow. Here The Shaper costs about 19 chaos and pays about 12 divines an hour on a difficulty 3 fight. That is a genuinely good starting point if you have never farmed a pinnacle boss.
Fragment cost is not what decides this.
The slowest payback of any boss that earns is Uber Elder, and even that one covers its fragments in under twenty minutes of farming. Most bosses do it in under a minute, and The Maven's writ pays for itself in a few seconds. Pick the fight you can kill, not the one you can afford. Uber Elder is a poor pick for other reasons — see the ladder section below.
Easiest bosses to farm
If you want a fight you can survive, start here.
Nothing in this category is an easy fight.
Difficulty here starts at 3 and goes to 5. There is no boss rated 1 or 2. The bosses below are the least dangerous of a dangerous set, and every one of them can still kill you and take your fragments with it.
| Strategy | Difficulty | Profit per hour | Setup cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sirus | 3 | ~17 | ~29c |
| The Searing Exarch | 3 | ~14 | ~170c |
| The Shaper | 3 | ~12 | ~19c |
| The Elder | 3 | ~11 | ~41c |
| King in the Mist | 3 | ~9 | ~49c |
| The Eater of Worlds | 3 | ~5 | ~190c |
| Venarius | 4 | ~17 | ~65c |
| Uber Shaper | 4 | ~13 | ~740c |
| The Maven | 4 | ~12 | ~5c |
Six bosses are rated 3, and every one of them is a base version rather than an uber. If you are stepping into pinnacle bosses for the first time, this is your list.
Sirus is the clear pick. It is in the least dangerous tier and the best-paying fight in that tier, on a setup of four Crests for well under a divine. After that, The Searing Exarch at about 14 an hour, then The Shaper for about 19 chaos a run.
The Eater of Worlds is the one to leave alone. It pays about 5 an hour, the worst of the difficulty 3 group, and its invitation costs more than the whole rest of that group put together. It also carries a warning the others do not: the run it was recorded from lost money, and it only shows a profit now because drop prices have climbed a long way since. That makes it the least stable rate in this table.
Uber bosses versus normal bosses
The uber is not automatically the upgrade.
Seven bosses have both a normal and an uber version published. Four of the seven are worth climbing to, and one of those four barely counts. In the other three the uber earns less than the fight it replaces, and two of those lose money outright. The word "Uber" in the title tells you nothing about whether it pays.
Maven
Roughly 175 times the setup cost for about three times the profit, and still clearly worth it — because the setup cost was never the constraint. One difficulty step harder, into the hardest fight in the game.
Sirus
The strangest row in the guide: the uber costs less than the base fight, and earns about 6 divines an hour more. The catch is difficulty, which jumps two steps in one go.
Elder
The only three-step ladder, and the middle step is not a step up at all. It costs nine times as much as the base fight and currently earns about a third as much. The top step then pays about 18 an hour. Farm The Elder, or farm Uber Uber Elder, and skip what is between them. Uber Elder's rate is also the shakiest number on this page — see the accuracy note at the end.
Shaper
About 40 times the setup cost for roughly one extra divine an hour, one difficulty step harder, and it moves nearly all of the reward into a single drop. On the number it is an upgrade. In practice the gap is small enough that a normal week of price movement could close it. Take this one as a wash.
Venarius
The uber earns about 6 an hour less, costs slightly more, is one step harder, and puts nearly all of its reward into a single drop.
Eater of Worlds
The base fight barely earns and the uber loses. It also has the most expensive setup of any boss on the site.
Searing Exarch
The sharpest warning in the guide. The base fight is one of the best difficulty 3 earners in the game. Its uber loses about 11 an hour. Run the normal one.
Which boss drops carry the profit
Two bosses paying the same per hour can feel completely different to farm.
A boss's profit per hour is an average. What that average hides is how the money actually arrives. Some bosses pay a little on most kills. Others pay almost nothing on most kills and then hand you one item worth a week of farming. Top drop share is how much of the reward value sits in a single item, and it separates the two.
Most lopsided. Almost all of the money arrives in one item.
| Strategy | Top drop share | The item carrying it | Profit per hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uber Venarius | 96% | Rational Doctrine | ~11 |
| King in the Mist | 94% | The Light of Meaning | ~9 |
| Uber Shaper | 87% | Sublime Vision | ~13 |
| The Searing Exarch | 79% | Forbidden Flame | ~14 |
| The Maven | 73% | Orb of Conflict | ~12 |
Most even. The money comes from several items instead of one.
| Strategy | Top drop share | The item carrying it | Profit per hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uber Maven | 25% | Progenesis | ~38 |
| Uber Sirus | 48% | Awakener's Orb | ~23 |
| The Shaper | 56% | Dying Sun | ~12 |
| Sirus | 63% | Awakener's Orb | ~17 |
| Uber Elder | 63% | Watcher's Eye | ~3 |
Almost all of the money from Uber Venarius is one item, Rational Doctrine. Most kills will not drop it. Its rate of about 11 divines an hour is real over a long stretch, but a short session is far more likely to pay nothing than to pay 11. King in the Mist is nearly as lopsided, at 94% The Light of Meaning, and that one is a difficulty 3 fight — so the number that looks beginner-friendly on the easiest table is the number that will test a beginner's patience the most.
Uber Maven is the opposite, and this is what makes it the strongest pick in the guide rather than just the highest number. Its biggest single drop is only 25% of its reward value. The money comes from several items instead of one, so the rate behaves much more like a wage and much less like a lottery ticket.
Uber Elder is even too, and it is worth saying plainly that this does not save it. Spreading a small number evenly still leaves you with a small number — and that small number is the least reliable one on the page, for the reason given in the accuracy note below.
If you have limited time to play, weigh this more heavily than profit per hour.
A boss with 90% or more of its value in one drop needs a lot of kills before the average shows up.
Boss farms to avoid
The fragments cost more than the kill returns.
| Strategy | Profit per hour | Setup cost | Difficulty | What went wrong |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Uber Searing Exarch | ~ −11 | ~280c~0.7 div | 5 | Base version earns about 14. |
| Uber Eater of Worlds | ~ −9 | ~990c~2.4 div | 5 | Priciest setup in the category. |
Two bosses are losing money at current prices, and both are uber versions of a fight whose normal version earns well.
Uber Searing Exarch is the sharper warning. The Searing Exarch is one of the best difficulty 3 fights in the game at about 14 divines an hour. Its uber version, on about 280 chaos of Blazing Fragments and two difficulty steps harder, loses about 11 an hour. Run the normal one.
Uber Eater of Worlds has the most expensive setup of any boss on the site, at about 990 chaos for four Devouring Fragments, and it runs about 9 divines an hour into loss.
How to read these numbers
- Profit per hour
- Divines per hour at the current Divine Orb price of 421.26 chaos. Every figure here is a chaos amount divided by that, so if the Divine price moves, the rates move with it.
- Setup cost
- The fragments or invitation one kill consumes, at current prices.
- Difficulty
- Rated 1 to 5, how likely the fight is to kill you. This category only uses 3, 4 and 5. There is no easy boss.
- Top drop share
- How much of a boss's reward value sits in its single biggest drop. A high share means the profit arrives in rare lumps rather than steadily.
- Setup effort
- Every boss here is rated the simplest tier. One fragment set, one portal, no atlas work. That is why it is not a column.
- Accuracy
- Prices move every day. These are the latest recorded prices, not live quotes, so treat the figures as a guide rather than a quote. Uber Elder and The Eater of Worlds were both recorded from runs that lost money, and show a profit here only because prices have moved a long way since; small price changes swing those two rates far more than the others, so they are the least trustworthy figures on the page. Live figures for every strategy are on the top strategies page.
