Overview
The Eater of Worlds is one of the two Eldritch Horrors that sit at the top of the Atlas. The uber version is opened with four Devouring Fragments and fought at area level 85, and it is a much harder fight than the normal one. It drops its own pool of uniques, plus two items you cannot get anywhere else: Nimis and a Forbidden Flesh carrying a hidden Ascendancy notable.
This is a high-variance farm. Almost all of the money sits in two rare drops, so most kills pay very little and the good ones pay a lot. At the moment the fragments are expensive enough that the modelled numbers come out negative, so check the fragment price yourself before you commit to a batch.
Setup
One run consumes:
- Devouring Fragment x4 - used in the map device to open the uber instance of Absence of Symmetry and Harmony. Nothing else is consumed, and nothing is reusable.
How long a run takes: about three minutes end to end, counting travel, opening the arena and the fight. A very good build kills the boss in under a minute, but three minutes is the realistic loop time and it is the figure the hourly number is built on. It is an estimate, not a floor anyone hits.
The Encounter
The uber fight adds a flat 70% less damage taken to the boss, so bring real damage or you will not finish it. The things that actually kill people:
- Drowning Orbs - floating orbs drift around the arena. Touching one slows you and kills you in three seconds if you do not move away. They back off when you face them and follow when you turn away.
- Sphere Slam ("Hunger!") - the boss glides to you, channels for about two seconds, then slams. The uber version has a much bigger area, and the boss often casts it twice in a row. Very high damage.
- Lightning Beam ("Perish!") - a short channel, then a shocking beam. In the uber fight it tracks you and repeats two more times.
- Tentacle Slams ("Writhing mass!") - wider than in the normal fight, in long wall and six-sided star patterns.
- Doom Phase ("Inescapable doom!") - the boss goes untargetable in the centre and a growing laser follows you, stacking a damage-taken debuff. Stand in each purple sphere Maven spawns to activate it. Uber always spawns the maximum number of spheres and throws tentacle slams at you while you do it. Miss the twenty second window and the arena-wide slam will almost certainly kill you.
Bring high lightning resistance and a large life or energy shield pool, plus enough movement speed to clear the Doom Phase spheres. The damage is mostly lightning, with some physical on the tentacles.
How These Numbers Were Calculated
- The method. These figures are a modelled 100-kill sample built from the drop rates published on the PoE Wiki, not results anybody recorded. A 3% chance is counted three times across 100 kills, a guaranteed drop 100 times. Expenses are one run's fragment cost multiplied by the same 100 runs. The hourly figure is the net total spread over five hours, which is 100 runs at three minutes each.
- The rates are estimates. The wiki's table covers versions 3.26.0 to 3.27.0 with a sample of 695 uber kills, and says outright that actual drop rates may vary. Rows without a stated rate were left out: the Gluttony Support gem, the Auspicious Ambitions card, and the first-kill-only Eldritch Voidstone.
- The profit is concentrated. About 69% of the modelled income is a single item, Nimis, which drops on roughly 2% of kills. Another 22% is the Forbidden Flesh at 5%. Together they are over 90% of the total. That means a run of twenty or thirty kills with nothing good is completely normal and is not a sign the strategy is broken - but it also means the whole thing rises and falls with the Nimis price.
