Overview
The Shaper is a pinnacle Atlas boss fought in the Shaper's Realm. Every kill drops one guaranteed unique from a four-item pool plus a guaranteed Uber Elder fragment, which makes the return per run more predictable than most boss encounters. In practice almost all of that value sits in Dying Sun, the rarest item in the pool.
Setup
One run consumes a full Key to the Crucible set placed in the map device: Fragment of the Hydra, Fragment of the Chimera, Fragment of the Phoenix and Fragment of the Minotaur. The fragments drop from the four Guardian maps and are freely tradeable, so they can simply be bought.
The Encounter
The Nexus comes first: four randomly chosen map bosses at the corners of an X-shaped area, then a portal to the arena. The Shaper himself has three phases, separated by passage sections ending in The Uncreated and then The Unshaped. He regenerates health while you traverse those, so speed matters.
Nearly everything dangerous is a cold spell, which makes maximum cold resistance and spell suppression the two defensive layers worth prioritising, alongside capped elemental resistances and roughly 5,000 combined life and energy shield. Around 1 million DPS keeps the phases short. Dodge the teleport slam, run out of the beam rather than through it, and stand in Zana's red bubble when she calls you during Bullet Hell. Phase three adds an invulnerable clone and spawns vortexes often enough to leave very little safe ground.
How These Numbers Were Calculated
This strategy is modelled from the drop rates published on the PoE Wiki rather than from a recorded series of runs. The sample is a synthetic 100 kills: an item with a 3 percent drop chance is counted three times over the sample, a guaranteed drop 100 times. Expenses are the cost of one full Key to the Crucible set multiplied by those same 100 runs, and profit is every modelled drop valued at its current price. We estimate that a run takes approximately 3 minutes.
The drop rates are estimates and should be read as such. The wiki's figures come from preliminary trade data gathered in the first week after the 3.26.0 drop rate rebalance, across a sample of roughly 1,900 kills, and the page itself warns that actual rates may vary. Results over any short run of kills will differ considerably from the average.
One item dominates the result. Dying Sun is the rarest of the four guaranteed uniques at 3 percent, and it accounts for roughly 97 percent of the modelled profit — the other three uniques and both Uber Elder fragments together make up the rest. The strategy's value therefore tracks the price of Dying Sun and the accuracy of that single 3 percent figure almost exclusively. Going a long stretch of kills without one is entirely normal and will feel far worse than the average suggests.
