Overview
Uber Elder — formally The Elder in The Shaper's Realm — is a dual boss encounter fought against the Elder and the Shaper simultaneously, opened with a full Maddening Object fragment set. One of the two is always invulnerable, swapping every time the vulnerable one loses 25% of its health. It is one of the hardest non-uber fights in the game, and it pays in a guaranteed unique pool backed by Watcher's Eye, the two influenced Exalted Orbs and Orb of Dominance.
This strategy covers the regular Uber Elder only. The Uber Uber variant, opened with four Decaying Fragments in The Shaper's Realm, has a different opening cost and an exclusive drop pool, and none of the figures here apply to it.
Setup
One run consumes the four Maddening Object fragments in the map device: Fragment of Knowledge, Fragment of Shape, Fragment of Terror and Fragment of Emptiness. Knowledge and Shape come from killing The Shaper; Terror and Emptiness come from killing The Elder. All four trade freely, so the encounter can be opened entirely from purchased fragments. Nothing else is consumed per run — everything else you bring is reusable.
The Encounter
There are no phases. Damage the vulnerable boss for 25% of its health and invulnerability swaps to the other one. The Elder cannot be killed or culled; at 0% he plays a death cutscene instead. The Shaper opens a monster portal at 50% health and the Elder summons Null Portals at 75% and 25%, and neither attacks during its own intermission.
What actually kills people:
- The Shaper's Vortex balls. Slow-seeking grey orbs that leave a permanent damage-over-time pool where they touch you. Lead them to the arena edges. A centre-littered arena ends the run on its own.
- The Elder's Ring of Death. An expanding ring that explodes for physical damage large enough to kill most builds. Stay inside the inner ring until it resolves.
- The Shaper Beam. Roughly 15,800 combined elemental damage per second over three seconds. It does not track after firing, so move out of it.
- Teleport slams from both bosses. Keep moving so the slam lands where you were.
- Volatile Anomalies and Madness Propagators spawn on a 20-second alternation and seed permanent ground degens. Kill the Propagators; walk the Anomalies somewhere harmless to pop them.
Bring at least 1 million DPS, capped elemental resistances with extra maximum cold resistance if you can spare it, 5,000+ combined life and energy shield with reliable recovery, and a movement skill. Zana does not help in this fight.
How These Numbers Were Calculated
Nobody ran this strategy and recorded the results. The sample is synthetic: a modelled 100 kills built from the drop rates published on the wiki. A 3% chance is counted three times across the sample, a 30% chance thirty times, and expenses are one run's fragment cost multiplied by the same 100 runs. The guaranteed unique pool — Mark of the Shaper and Mark of the Elder at 35% each, Voidfletcher at 15%, Indigon at 12%, Disintegrator at 3% — sums to exactly 100%, meaning one of the five drops per kill.
The rates are estimates, not measurements. The published figures come from a sample of 614 kills pooled across versions 3.26.0 to 3.28.0, and the source itself warns that actual rates may vary. Uber pinnacle drop tables were rebalanced in 3.24. Two rows are listed only as "under 1%" and are modelled here at 0.5%. Over any realistic run of kills — twenty, fifty — real results will scatter widely around these numbers.
Where the money sits. This is a Watcher's Eye strategy with a boss attached. The three-mod Watcher's Eye at a 30% drop chance carries close to 60% of modelled income on its own, and Orb of Dominance at 5% carries another 20% — four fifths of the total from two rows. The five guaranteed uniques, despite one dropping every single kill, contribute barely 3% between them. Two consequences follow. Going ten or fifteen kills without an Orb of Dominance is entirely normal and is not evidence the strategy is broken. And because Watcher's Eye is a variable-roll jewel with an enormous price spread, the value you realise depends far more on which mods you hit than on how the fight goes — the modelled figure assumes an ordinary three-mod roll, not a chase one.
At the fragment and drop prices modelled here the encounter comes out slightly negative: the Maddening Object set costs more than an average kill returns, by roughly 18 chaos a run. That margin is thin enough to flip on a modest move in either the fragment market or the Watcher's Eye market, so the fragment price is worth checking before committing to a bulk buy.
