Overview

The Searing Exarch is one of the two Eldritch pinnacle bosses. You open the fight with an Incandescent Invitation, kill one boss, and leave with a guaranteed unique plus a chance at the Eldritch currency the fight is actually farmed for. It is short and self-contained, with no map to clear first, which is what makes it worth repeating.

This strategy covers the regular Searing Exarch, not the uber version. The uber fight costs more to open and drops from a different pool, so none of these numbers apply to it.

Setup

  • Incandescent Invitation — one per run, used in the map device. This is the entire cost of entry.
  • Nothing else is consumed. No fragments, no scarabs, no map.
  • About one minute per run. That is the whole loop end to end, from opening the invitation to leaving the arena, for a fast build that kills the boss quickly. It is not a floor everyone hits — a build that has to survive several meteor phases will take considerably longer.

The Encounter

Almost all of the damage is fire. Cap your fire resistance before you go in.

  • Lantern Explosion — a short charge-up, then a very large fire hit that ignores block, dodge and spell suppression. The warning circle is slightly bigger than the hit. Get out of it; do not try to tank it.
  • Rolling Meteors — the Exarch becomes invulnerable and sends lines of meteors across the arena. Teleport skills like Flame Dash pass through them safely, and minions, totems or Frost Wall will body-block them. Do not log out during this phase, as it usually restarts it.
  • Searing Runes — tiles that slide across the floor. Standing on one blocks all life and energy shield recovery and lowers your maximum fire resistance for ten seconds after you step off. Keep moving.
  • Flame Walls and mortars — steady chip damage you can walk out of, but they punish standing still to channel.
  • Avoid the Buffered invitation mod. Monsters gain a large share of maximum life as extra energy shield, and the Exarch recharges it fully during every immunity phase. On a low-damage build the fight can become unwinnable.

How These Numbers Were Calculated

These figures are modelled, not measured. Nobody ran a hundred Exarchs with a spreadsheet.

  • The method. A synthetic sample of 100 kills built from the drop rates published on the PoE Wiki. A 5% drop chance is counted five times across the sample; the guaranteed unique drops on all 100 kills, split between the three uniques by their share of the pool. Expenses are one invitation multiplied by the same 100 runs. The hourly figure is that net total spread over 100 minutes, using the one-minute-per-run assumption above — that is an assumption of the model, not something anyone timed.
  • The rates are estimates. The wiki's numbers come from version 3.26.0 with a sample of 317 regular kills, and the page says outright that actual drop rates may vary. A sample that size measures a 63% chance well and a sub-1% chance barely at all. The Auspicious Ambitions rate is listed only as "less than 1%", so it is modelled at half a per cent.
  • The profit sits in one item. A Forbidden Flame, at a 5% drop chance, carries roughly four fifths of the modelled profit by itself. The three guaranteed uniques together come to about one per cent of it. Going twenty or thirty kills without a payday is completely normal here and is not a sign that anything is broken — but it does mean this strategy rises and falls with one price and one uncommon roll.
